Contemporary Literature Press publishes its first volume in three languages. The book was initially written in Polish and (parts of it) in English. It is a collection of snapshots meant to make After-Iron-Curtain Warsaw known to the world. In the meantime, Tales of Bucharest has also been published, after Tales of Budapest and Tales of Warsaw. The original publisher is New Europe Writers. They call themselves, very aptly, “your guide to life behind the curtain”. Communism was a curtain – and a very thick one, at that. Post-Communism is another, unfortunately. All that this book, published in Romanian, Polish, and English by Contemporary Literature Press, means to convey is that Literary Translators can draw the curtains of Europe for literature lovers all over the world. There is, there has always been life – as a story – in literature, no matter what time and tide brought to one country or another. Not many authors are willing to leave their story for that of another geographical space. Literary translation is doing that for them. The Graduate Students of the MA Programme for the Translation of Contemporary Texts, at Bucharest University, are messengers from that genetic inheritance of writers – Polish, this time – which is called one’s native land...

Editura pentru Literatură Contemporană publică, pentru prima dată de când s-a înființat, un volum trilingv. El a fost inițial scris în polonă, cu excepția unui număr de texte scrise direct în limba engleză. Este vorba de poeme și proze scurte, menite să ofere o imagine a Varșoviei, așa cum arată ea după căderea Cortinei de Fier. Între timp, au mai apărut în aceeași colecție Tales of Bucharest, după Tales of Budapest și Tales of Warsaw. Editorul original este New Europe Writers. El se autodefinește ca “privirea din spatele perdelei”. Comunismul a fost o perdea care a ascuns multe. Post-Comunismul este și el un alt fel perdea, de ascunzătoare. Volumul acesta, publicat de Editura pentru Literatură Contemporană în limbile română, polonă și engleză, tocmai acest scop are, să tragă deoparte perdelele Europei pentru iubitorii de literatură din lumea întreagă. Literatura a fost din toate timpurile poveste, adică viață. În unele țări, a fost “bietul om sub vremi”, cum bine zicea cronicarul român în veacul al XVII-lea. Și cu toate acestea, nu mulți scriitori au avut dorința ori tăria să dezerteze din povestea lor pentru a intra în aceea a unui alt spațiu geografic de pe glob. Acest lucru îl face de o bună bucată de vreme încoace pentru ei Traducerea Literară. Masteranzii în Traducerea Textului Contemporan de la Universitatea din București sunt mesagerii acelei componente genetice din ființa scriitorilor – polonezi, de data aceasta – care se cheamă, cu un cuvânt compromis de comunism, dar imposibil de înlocuit, patrie...
