Saturday 23 April 2016 was the last day of the workshops that were hosted in the building of the Romanian Cultural Institute. Six English poets and 80 graduate students attending the MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text of the University of Bucharest took part. The workshops have resulted in an Anthology of Contemporary Romanian Poetry, soon to be published by Contemporary Literature Press, the online publishing house of the University of Bucharest.
           The idea of the workshops came from Lidia Vianu, Director of the MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text. They were organized by Headsome Communication, the University of Bucharest, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Romanian Writers' Union, and the National Museum of Romanian Literature. These workshops are part of the curriculum of Lidia Vianu's graduate students, who translate both Romanian literature into English and English literature into Romanian. The topic was poetry this year.
           On the first day of this English–Romanian week, MTTLC— Ten Years Old! (http://editura.mttlc.ro/mttlc-10-years-old.html) was launched. The volume celebrates ten years since the MA programme known as MTTLC began to function.            "I imagined these workshops ten years ago: somehow this was the reason why I started the MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text. That was also the moment when my collaboration with Anne Stewart and her group of English poets began. My graduate students translated these poets, and I have sent their translations for publication to numerous national magazines. This project relies on my belief that translation is an essential method in teaching the English language and literature. For the same reason, when we also founded a publishing house that was meant to broaden the area of MTTLC, Professor C. George Sandulescu—Executive Advisor—added to Contemporary Literature Press the subtitle "the publishing house for the study of the English language through literature." These Literary Translation Workshops are the first of what I hope will be a long series of yearly events, during which MTTLC students will work together with English writers." Lidia Vianu.
           On the evening of the first day, His Excellency Mr Paul Brummel, Ambassador of the UK in Bucharest, invited the poets and the organizers for a cocktail at his residence.
             The workshops took place from Monday till Friday, for four hours every morning. Each poet worked with a team of 12 graduates. The translation sessions ended on Friday, with a two-hour debate concerning translation and the teaching of literature, attended by all the graduates, the six English poets, Lidia Vianu, Ioana Ieronim, Ariadna Ponta (ICR), Eliana Ionoaia, and Violeta Baroană.
           On Saturday 23 April, the library of the British Council invited the English poets to read from their verse. On that occasion, the book Six English Poets, translated by Ioana Ieronim and published as parallel texts by Editura Integral, was launched and autographed. That book will be followed by another volume, containing the proceedings of the workshops, more verse by the English poets, reactions of the poets and students to this first-time translating event.
          On the same occasion, Contemporary Literature Press announced the beginning of a 30–volume bilingual publication: Shakespeare's plays in English, and in Romanian translations dating as far back as the 1850's. MTTLC celebrates its 10–year anniversary with this project meant to keep it in close contact with the British Council.

           Sâmbăta 23 aprilie 2016 s–au încheiat Atelierele desfășurate la sediul Institutului Cultural Român cu șase poeți britanici și 80 de masteranzi ai Masteratului pentru Traducerea Textului Literar Contemporan al Universității București. Rezultatul acestor ateliere este o Antologie de Poezie Contemporană Românească, pe care o va publica în curând editura online a UB, Contemporary Literature Press.
           Ideea acestor ateliere îi aparține Directorului MTTLC, Lidia Vianu. De organizarea lui s–au ocupat: Echipa Headsome Communication, Universitatea București, Institutul Cultural Român, Uniunea Scriitorilor din România și Muzeul Național al Literaturii Române. Atelierele sunt parte din programa de studiu a MTTLC, care traduce atât literatură română în limba engleză, cât și literatură engleză în limba română. Anul acesta, subiectul a fost poezia.
          În prima zi, s–a lansat cartea săptămânii româno–britanice, MTTLC—Ten Years Old! (http://editura.mttlc.ro/mttlc-10-years-old.html), care marchează faptul că anul acesta programul masteral de traducere literară de la Universitatea București a ajuns la cea de–a zecea promoție.              „Ideea acestor Ateliere de Traducere s–a născut cu 10 ani în urmă, atunci când am înființat MTTLC. De atunci încoace am colaborat cu agenta literară Anne Stewart și grupul ei de 400 de poeți, pe care masteranzii i–au tradus și i–au publicat în numeroase reviste naționale. Proiectul se bazează pe convingerea mea că traducerea este un instrument esențial de lucru pentru toți cei care studiază limba și literatura engleză. Acesta este și motivul pentru care Profesorul C. George Sandulescu—Executive Advisor—a denumit Editura Contemporary Literature Press, înființată inițial tot dintr–o necesitate a MTTLC, „Editura pentru studiul limbii engleze prin literatură”. Atelierele de Traducere Literară București 2016 deschid, sper eu, un șir lung de întâlniri de lucru ale masteranzilor, traducătorilor și cititorilor români cu autorii care scriu în limba lui Shakespeare.” Lidia Vianu.
             În seara aceleiași zile, Ambasadorul Marii Britanii la București a invitat la un cocktail la ambasadă toți poeții participanți și pe organizatorii atelierelor.
              În fiecare zi, de luni până vineri, de la ora 10 la ora 14, s–au desfășurat ateliere, în echipe de câte 12 masteranzi, conduse de un poet englez. Atelierele s–au încheiat vineri cu o masă rotundă de două ore pe tema traducerii ca metodă de predare a literaturii, la care au participat poeții, masteranzii, Lidia Vianu, Ioana Ieronim, Ariadna Ponta (ICR), Eliana Ionoaia și Violeta Baroană.
           Sâmbătă 23 aprilie, Biblioteca Consiliului Britanic a invitat poeții englezi să citească din versurile lor. S–a lansat cu această ocazie volumul bilingv Șase poeți britanici, în traducerea Ioanei Ieronim, publicat de Editura Integral. Acest volum va fi urmat în luna mai de o culegere mai amplă de poeme aparținând poeților britanici, o selecție de poeme românești traduse la ateliere, impresii ale poeților și ale masteranzilor.
            În aceeași zi, împreună cu cea de–a zecea aniversare a MTTLC, sărbătorită prin inaugurarea seriei anuale de Ateliere de Traducere Literară București, s–a lansat și proiectul editurii Contemporary Literature Press de publicare bilingvă a 30 de volume de piese de teatru scrise de William Shakespeare, care includ traduceri vechi din opera lui Shakespeare în România.
