Contemporary Literature Press is today publishing three books universally known as books for children: Alice's Adventures by Lewis Carroll, Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, and Oscar Wilde's Tales. In this edition, the English originals are not accompanied by Romanian translations. We have chosen to publish these books in English alone. Make your children read these books in English. The sooner in life you learn a foreign language, the better you will know it later on.

Whether these books were meant for children in the first place or not, is a question which we have answered by grouping these three books under the label Grownups. Joyce himself had a sustained attraction for such texts. The Cat and the Devil and The Cats of Copenhagen, both written in 1936 for his grandson Stephen James Joyce, can prove that assertion. In almost 75 years of Joycean Studies, this has never been a serious topic of serious research. It is the intention of our Joyce Lexicography Series to point in that direction.

Gulliver is now 300 years old. Alice is celebrating her 150th birthday this very year! Wilde's Happy Prince is only 20 years younger than her. Finnegan himself has barely reached the age of 75. What can these four characters have in common? The answer can be found in the following list of random words invented by the creators of our four characters: mimsy, mome, slithy, tove—Lilliput, Brobdignag, Laputa, Yahoos, and Houyhnhnms—quark, humptyhillhead, swiftly, Wildu Picturescu.

In short, the reason why we are publishing these three books together now is Finnegans Wake, by James Joyce, which brings them all together.

The Cat and the Devil și The Cats of Copenhagen, amândouă scrise în anul 1936 pentru nepotul lui, Stephen James Joyce, stau mărturie.

Gulliver are acum 300 de ani. Cât despre Finnegan, el are numai 75 de ani.
