Parallel Texts. 159pp. edited by Lidia Vianu. Selection by Brândușa Răileanu. (ISBN 978-606-8366-26-5) Contemporary Literature Press is publishing the first David Lodge Reader, as well as the first online book authored by Lodge. It includes fragments from ten of his novels, in both English and their Romanian translation. The aim of this Lodge Reader is, on the one hand, to whet the readers' appetite. On the other hand, since the book is published as parallel texts, it is meant to help those who are trying to improve their knowledge of the English language. David Lodge (born in 1935) began as an academic, and is now a well-established literary critic and novelist. The Chronology of his works at the end of the Reader offers ample information as to his whole work. The major feature of his criticism and fiction is his balanced attitude versus tradition and innovation. Lodge is undoubtedly a novelist of the present, but with a solid knowledge of the past. This Reader has been put together with the encouragement of the author himself. Before anything else, it is a gift to students of both literature and language. We hope it will prove that good literature crosses borders, and that, in this process, mastery of foreign languages is a faithful ally. David Lodge. Parallel Texts. 159pp. editat de Lidia Vianu. Selecția textelor de Brândușa Răileanu. (ISBN 978-606-8366-26-5) Contemporary Liteature Press publică primul Reader David Lodge, și în același timp primul volum de David Lodge online. Selecția pe care a alcătuit-o anglista Brândușa Răileanu cuprinde fragmente din zece romane, în original și în traducere românească, sub formă de texte paralele. Scopul unei astfel de publicații este în primul rând să îndrume cititorii lui Lodge către opera propriu-zisă. În același timp, faptul că volumul adaugă originalului traducerile fragmentelor, preluate din volumele Editurii Polirom, va ajuta cu siguranță pe cei care încearcă să învețe cât mai bine limba engleză. Născut în anul 1935, David Lodge și-a început cariera ca universitar. Acum se numără printre cei mai cunoscuți critici și romancieri englezi ai momentului. Cei care doresc să-i cunoască întreaga operă vor găsi informații ample în Cronologia cu care se încheie volumul nostru. Caracteristica esențială a operei lui Lodge este echilibrul pe care îl stabilește între tradiție și inovație. Lodge scrie pentru prezent, fără îndoială, dar se bazează pe o profundă cunoaștere a trecutului. Autorul însuși a încurajat alcătuirea acestui Reader. A făcut-o, de bună seamă, în dorința de a sprijini CLP, „Editura pentru studiul limbii engleze prin literatură”. Volumul acesta bilingv dovedește că literatura bună trece granițele, și că, în această aventură, cunoașterea limbilor străine este un aliat necesar. David Lodge.
