Besides Dubliners, Ulysses, or Finnegans Wake, James Joyce also wrote two stories that he sent to his son's son, Stephen James Joyce, as letters. One of them is "The Cat and the Devil".
          "The Cat and the Devil" may as well have taken place in Corsica, the country where Cristopher Columbus was born, and which was at the time part of the Republic of Genoa.
            Considering the fact that we cannot quote James Joyce's story for reasons of copyright, we are offering readers research material: key words which, in a very unexpected way, turn out to be central to Joyce's work. It is the reader's turn to continue what we have begun here, which we really hope the reader will do, as soon as the original texts are free from copyright.

          Pe lângă Dubliners, Ulysses, sau Finnegans Wake, James Joyce a scris și două mici povestiri, pe care le–a trimis sub formă de scrisori aceluia care era fiul fiului său: Stephen James Joyce. Una dintre ele se intitulează „The Cat and the Devil”.
           S–ar putea ca „The Cat and the Devil” să fi avut loc în țara lui Cristofor Columb: acesta s–a născut în Corsica, care era pe vremea aceea parte din Republica Genovei.
           Din cauză că nu putem cita textul povestirii lui James Joyce, din rațiuni de copyright, recurgem la o metodă prin care vă oferim material de lucru: acesta constă într–o serie de cuvinte cheie, care, în mod neașteptat, se dovedesc a fie centrale în opera lui Joyce. Acum e rândul cititorilor să continue ceea ce am început noi, și sperăm că vor face acest lucru atunci când restricțiile de copyright ale textelor orignale vor dispărea.
